
Catherine B Smith, PsyD is a Clinical Psychologist (PSY34891) & Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT124879) in private practice in Santa Monica, CA. She provides therapy to individual adults, couples, children & adolescents. Her therapy practice is holistic, inviting exploration at the level of mind, body & spirit, which facilitates deep insights & lasting resolution.
By utilizing her training in mind-based (psychodynamic), body-based (somatic) & spiritual (depth psychology) theory & techniques, Catherine helps her clients to recognize, process & shift deep-seated patterns held within the nervous system.
Catherine’s practice is inclusive & particularly welcomes highly sensitive people, including adults on the neurodivergent spectrum (including those who think they might have autism &/or ADHD), folks on a spiritual path (traditional or otherwise) &/or those who have experienced familial or societal marginalization (such as racism, religious abuse, narcissistic family system or workplace experiences, sexism, ableism, queerphobia, etc.).
In addition to her doctoral degree (PsyD) in clinical psychology, Catherine has received specialized trauma training in NARM (neuro-affective relational model – with Dr. Laurence Heller), TIST (trauma-informed stabilization treatment – with Dr. Janina Fisher) & CEN (childhood emotional neglect – with Dr. Jonice Webb). She also has experience utilizing DBT (dialectical behavior therapy) skills training in both group & individual contexts.
Catherine is currently providing therapy to California residents via telehealth & has recently added some in-person availability in Santa Monica, CA (limited slots available – please inquire).
Her full fee for therapy is $250 per session. While her practice does not currently accept insurance, superbills (a type of receipt) can be provided for reimbursement by PPO insurance plans that cover out-of-network mental health. A limited number of sliding scale spots are also available (please do not hesitate to inquire).

New in 2024: Dr. Catherine now offers formal neuropsychological & psychoeducational testing for children, adolescents & adults. These assessments, while adherent to industry standard best practices, are conducted with curiosity & warmth, & collected data are then carefully synthesized into a report which is written from a perspective of advocacy, to convey a holistic understanding of the whole person & offer recommendations accordingly.
